We thought it was time that you got to know our Managing Director! So, we asked Rob Brown a few questions for you. Here is what he had to say.
Apple's website. Deceptively simple, but beautiful in its architecture.
Kerb. But I'm biased! Uber would have to be a close second. I love apps like Kerb and Uber that, when you press a single button, a problem is solved for you. In Kerb's case, you get an instant parking space at half the price of what you'd normally pay. In Uber's case, a vehicle comes to you, wherever you are in the world. And both apps circumvent the problem of communication issues when you are travelling in an unfamiliar country or culture.
Seth's Blog, by Seth Godin. Seth is one of those rare thinkers who has something original to say. I love his concise ('No BS') style of writing. Every fourth or fifth blog post contains a 'Wow!' moment.
Not sure I'd be able to single out one person, but four Internet pioneers who really influenced me, and my view of where the world is headed, were the guys behind the blog which became a seminal book - 'The Cluetrain Manifesto'. Doc Searles, Rick Levine, David Weinberger, Christopher Locke: I tip my hat to you. The 99 pages you wrote in 1998 are as insightful-a-view on the past, present and future of marketplaces as anything I have read in the twenty years since.
The Tim Ferris Show. Always contains a nugget of wisdom or two, that you can apply to your daily life.
iPhone Xs 😊
Donald Trump (for entertainment value only. Not to be consumed in large doses, or while under the influence of alcohol.)
Gary Vee. He's relentless. Passionate. Inspirational. I believe history will be kind to him, and will repay his generosity many times over.
Some of Kerb's most passionate advocates. The number of times in the past two years that we've received random messages on Facebook and Instagram from people - young and old - who simply want to say 'Thank you for helping me make money from my parking space... you got me out of a financial hole' or 'Thank you for helping me find somewhere affordable to moor my boat or park my car'. The Internet generally, and Social Media specifically, gets so much flack as a result of the bad players, but we need to occasionally stop to focus on all of the great people on social media. Most people are good. We should never forget that.
Stratechery, by Be n Thompson. The best $99-a-year anyone interested in technology + business will ever spend.
Video Ad interruptions. (YouTube and Facebook, I'm looking at YOU! Please don't interrupt us like the TV channels of yesteryear used to do. Because we can - and will - all go someplace else.)
That crazy dial-up Internet sound, every time you went online - back in 1994-1998.
There you have it, we hope you enjoyed getting to know Rob’s likes and dislikes as much as we did!
Some name inspiration for your new boat!
You'll never guess what is in pedestrian crossing paint in Berne!
